Compliments required

#DailySignals - Your two minute preview of the future

Today's signal again looks at how Generation Z IS different from those of us who came before.

Looking at Australian police service data that shows that while the independent Generation X only needs praise from their supervisors once a year (an annual performance review will do); and while millennials require more like quarterly recognition and reviews; Generation Z requires affirmation at least three times a week from their supervisors to remain motivated and happy in work.

Not only does this remind us that, yes, there is a point to generational studies in the future of work, but also that desire for feedback is actually quite positive (not merely "high maintenance"!) in that it offers plenty of opportunity for course correction. Why wouldn't a generation used to instant, constant social feedback not desire the same for their work?

What are your thoughts?

Are you prepared to give (and receive) more feedback and compliments? What other real (vs perceived) generational differences are you finding in your own teams?

Let us know Flux Trends (where we have a special spot for Generation Z, which in South Africa has a special resonance as the first post apartheid generation.
