Infidelity economics

#DailySignals - Your 2 minute preview of the future
2

Signals of decadence and decline? Or of socio-economic liberation?

The “infedelity economy” is an interesting one - apparently the average unfaithful partner is spending around USD 5k on their infidelity - hotels, matching app fees, sex toys, “alibis-as-a-service” fees included - p/a. A not insignificant amount given the, um, revealed popularity of such extracurricular activities.

But. My thoughts - what are your thoughts on the “coming out” of the deception-as-a-service infidelity economy? The outright advertising of affair dating apps and infidelity alibi services suggests cheating is just another consumer good (or bad, as the case may be).

Is this another signal of the loosening of social ties (and trust)?

Is it simply business. No hard feelings?

Why is this market growing - even as it’s easier (and socially and economically cheaper) than ever to just break up in our transactional disposable relationship society?

What’s really on sale here? Danger? Or desire?

And what are the implications as trust breakdown becomes normalised and even commoditised for greater society?

Lots of threads to pull on.

What are yours
