Today I'm looking at self-fulfilling prophecies - and patents to "predict" what content would (and should) go viral by the very platforms with the power to make any content the choose go viral!
Specifically, I look at Google's "vitality tester" patent application - and how it relates to Matthew effects (and insider trading of Doge Coins) - and to the every shrinking key-holes through which we view the world when the "quality" and "fit" of the information has been predetermined by a computer.
What are your thoughts?
Where else do you see expectations reinforcing themselves by influencing behaviour?
Do you want to consume more deterministic or more serendipitous content? (And if the latter, where do you go to find surprise rather than popularity?)
Do trend analysts predict or create trends?
- And, therefore, do futures professionals have a moral responsibility towards optimism?
