In toady's signal for women's day, an old woman (me) yells at the sky about teenage anti-aging and extreme thinness trends on TikTok and exported west via K-pop girl bands.
Not exactly a commercial business signal (unless you take it literally, yes anti ageing and thin everything is in vogue - lots of money to be made with protection rackets creating and "solving" feminine insecurities) but a disturbing one none the less. The UK has had to ban "preventative" (not medical advice) Botox for under 18's, and in China women's medium sized T-shirts are too small for 4 year old children...
What example are we setting for our girls?
And why are we wasting our youth working about age? (It certainly doesn't discount my "immortality as the driver of everything" trend thesis anyway)
And what's wrong with wrinkles anyway! (They are much softer and kinder than alien toxic filler bloated faces, I think anyway)
Anyway, I hope we can make a future where we don't need to stick things into our faces and suck things out of our bodies for social credit or to feel pretty and accepted. I hope the future will value us better than that, and I hope that we will make our girls feel valued for more than just skin(ny) depths.
