Designer drugs (but literally)

#DailySignals - Your 2 minute preview of the future

Today I take a look at how pill boxes (yes, not unlike your great granddaddy’s snuff boxes of yore) are becoming highly covetable status symbols among young people.

The kids today love pills. Be they nootropics, supplements, weight loss concoctions, psychedelics or physician prescribed mind or mood altering substances - there’s a pill for that.

I question what this says about the state of our mental health - and how bio-chemical (self) medication is no longer taboo, but actually high status.

Like most trends, this has positive and negative elements.

Biohacking - that is maximising your own mental and physical wellness and potential and destigmatisation of owning getting help with your mental health issues is commendable.

However, reliance on pills to get through the day (along with the associated statistics) is a bit more concerning.

(It’s no coincidence the “happiest” nations on Earth are so nicely correlated with national depression drug dependancy rates…)

But anyway, it’s a good time to be selling supplements (and fancy containers to put them in) as what we ingest for what becomes part of our social credit portfolio…

What do you think about supplements as status symbols?

How do you feel about the subtle shift in mental health conditions shifting from merely no longer being taboo (a status limiting admission) to becoming high status (a status lifting condition)?

What percentage of the DIY drug market is credible and how much of it is snake oil?

What do these signals say about how healthy and happy our younger generations are?

Let me know…
